The postgraduate program in Community Dentistry will produce skilled and competent graduates who will contribute to the delivery of comprehensive dental and oral health care to the masses so as to improve the total dental and oral health of the community as a whole and to develop proficient manpower for prevention, control, and promotion of oral disease at the individual and community level.

Community Dentistry is the dynamic field of dentistry which provides basic & advanced oral health knowledge, prevention of oral/dental diseases & creates awareness of oral hygiene in any population. It involves in the assessment of key dental health needs and coming up with effective solutions to improve the dental health of populations rather than individuals. It seeks to reduce demand on health care systems by redirection of resources to priority areas.
The department of community Dentistry was started at BUHS in 2013 with a passion to improve oral health education, prevention, and awareness of oral hygiene in population. We pride ourselves with having the honor of being the first department of this kind in Bangladesh. This pillar of dental health should not be downplayed as it can have a very positive impact on dental health of the population.
The main purpose of the subject is to spread oral health awareness in the public through organized community efforts. The course aims to stimulate interest and to encourage a questioning approach to community dental health issues and their relationship to clinical practice. The curriculum provides the student with a broad range of knowledge and practical experience in dental public health, primary health care approach and epidemiology of oral diseases to help students understand public health programs, planning and organizational evaluation of dental services are outlined to them. Basic research methods and statistical principles required in dental research and epidemiology are also covered.
