Program Educational Objectives (PEOs):

BS in Biochemistry and Cell Biology program describe accomplishments that graduates are expected to attain within two years after graduation.

  • Will be able to comprehend the basics of the vital processes in living systems and apply it professionally in the field of biological sciences with respect to environmental and economic issues.
  • Will enable graduates to design, experiment, analyze, and interpret modern notions in Biochemistry with the help of other multi-disciplinary concepts.
  • Will be able to pursue career in academia, research as well as in industry.
  • To facilitate, motivate and promote technical skills in the core areas of biological sciences with advanced practical knowledge in basic tools and technologies.

Description of the program

The Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology was established in 2010 and the program has been established in 2013. The department involves both research and academic activities. Multidisciplinary knowledge like Physics, Chemistry, Molecular Biology, Immunology, Plant Biochemistry, Nutritional Biochemistry, Biotechnology and Protein Engineering, Enzymology, Chemistry of Natural Products, Microbiology, Clinical Biochemistry and Computer Science are acquired in this department. The department is conducting a 4 years BS in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology program. Majors have the opportunity through extensive coursework, Laboratories, Seminars and several projects to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to enter the workforce or to go on with further graduate education leading to MS or PhD degree in Biochemistry or related discipline at home and abroad. The departmental faculties are involved in various research programs in the world. They also take part regularly in the National/International seminar/ symposium and workshops.The BS in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Program conducted on a Course & Credit based structure with 46 numbers of Courses to be dispensed in 160 credits in total.

The BS BCB (Honors) Program will be conducted on a Course & Credit based structure with 46 number of Courses to be dispensed in 3550 Credit Hours in total for 160 credit, completed in a minimum time span of 4 years.

Each new Program will commence in Spring and Fall in every year (02 intakes per year)

Description of the program

The Department of Microbiology was established in 2012 and the program has been established in 2013. The Department is involved in both research and academic activities. Multi disciplinary knowledge like Physics, History of Bangladesh, Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry, Biostatistics and Computer Science gather in this Department. The Department is conducting a 4 years BSc (Honors) course. Majors will have the opportunity through extensive coursework, Laboratories (hospital attachment), Seminars and Several projects to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to enter the workforce or to go on with further graduate education leading to BS or MS degree in Microbiology or related discipline at home and abroad.

  • Knowledge on the fundamental issues about community nutrition among the graduates from different perspectives by making them come out with simple solutions for complex problems.
  • Prepare Community Nutrition graduates qualified entry-level professionals by providing intellectualizing, critically analyzing, and acquiring in-depth knowledge on the concept of the human body, digestion, and absorption by absorbing in them the unique ability to synthesize knowledge towards adding value in the areas of good nutrition.
  • Able to produce competent graduates with inter-professional competencies engaged in the health profession and the improvement of human well-being.

Description of the program

Nutrition (CN) was first introduced under the Public Health Division in 2013. This Bachelor’s program provides comprehensive education for helping individuals and groups develop healthy eating habits to promote wellness and prevent disease. Through extensive coursework, field works, seminars, and several projects, students have the opportunity to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to enter the workforce or go on with further higher education at home and abroad.

This Program will be conducted on a Course & Credit based structure with 48 number of Courses to be dispensed in 160 Credits in total, completed in a minimum time span of 4 years.

Program Educational Objectives (PEOs):

  • To explain different terms and issues related to occupational and Environmental health and safety, focused to human health and natural sciences, and human behavior with an understanding of the environment, workplace and occupational and environmental health.
  • To impart knowledge and skill for the environment and environmental systems, the impact of human on the environment and environmental impacts on human, the importance of environmental safety when making technical, economic, political and other policy choices.
  • To provide knowledge and skill for the safety in workplaces, to identify hazardous situations and health problems due to occupational exposures and to identify occupational and work-related health problems in different workplaces and recognize the importance of socio-economic factors for healthy work practice when making technical, economic, political and other policy choices.
  • To confer knowledge on human behavior with an understanding of the natural environment, workplace environment, occupational and environmental health.
    To educate the students on ecology and environment, environmental degradation and depletion, environmental effects and impacts towards safe and sustainable and formulating policies and issues
  • To develop the capability of connecting science and society and balancing the needs of humans and other inhabitants with the needs to conserve the earth’s precious resources while formulating strategies, policies and approaches to management and solving environmental issues and reducing environmental impact.
  • To develop organizational, managerial and interpersonal skills of the professionals in the field of occupational and environmental health and safety and to formulate, recommend and develop strategies to prevent and control the health problems identified in the workplaces and surrounding environment.
  • To teach the students about epidemiological methods and toxicological techniques for evaluating problems in occupations, workplaces and surrounding environment and conduct research and formulate and recommend on important and current occupational and environmental health issues.

Description of the program

The Bachelor of Public Health (BPH) in Occupational and Environmental Health and Safety (Hon’s) is a 4 years course. The program have the opportunity through extensive coursework, laboratory works, hands on training on relevant fields, academic field visit in various industries & places related to important occupational and environmental issues. Seminars and several projects to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to enter the workforce or to go on with further graduate education leading to MPH degree in Occupational and Environmental Health and Safety or related discipline at home and abroad.

Description of the program

Since 2008, the Department of Epidemiology has started its journey at Bangladesh Institute of Health Sciences. Later on this department shifted under the Bangladesh University of Health Sciences since the inception of BUHS. Presently the department offers the Bachelor program (BPH in Epidemiology & Biostatistics) jointly with the Department of Biostatistics under the Faculty of Public Health. Bachelor Program consists of 160 credits with 4 years of duration (eight semesters). There are a huge range of activities of the department which includes investigation and control of disease outbreaks, determination of the health needs of the populations, and evaluation of effectiveness of health services. Out of 48 courses taught in this program students have extensive exposure to statistical tools and analysis through attending 16 courses from the Department of Biostatistics

Reproductive and child health covers the spectrum of sexual and reproductive health issues of women, men, adolescents as well as health issues of children. The life course approach recognizes the impact of health of women during reproductive years on the wellbeing of women, newborn and children. Decision-making, providing or accessing essential healthcare for women and children are frequently linked with gender issues. The program introduces and expands into critical thinking on sexual, reproductive and child health issues by students.   • Make the students able to demonstrate high-level analytical and critical thinking skills to solve conceptual and quantitative problems in laboratory sciences by applying fundamental principles in various analytical laboratories.

The Department of Applied Laboratory Sciences was established in 2012 and the program was established in 2013. The Department is involved in both research and academic activities. In addition to Laboratory Technology, multi-disciplinary knowledge like Physics, History of emergence of independent Bangladesh, Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry, Pathology, Analytical Techniques and Instrumentations, other Laboratory sciences based courses, Molecular Biology, Quality Control, Transfusion Medicine, Laboratory Biosafety, Biostatistics and Computer Science are also provided in this Department. The Department is conducting a 4 years BSc (Honors) program. Biomedical Engineering combines engineering, medicine and biology to improve the quality of our lives by resolving challenges in the healthcare industry. Bioengineers are an interesting breed. Often, they are needed to bridge traditional engineering skills with medical applications, working hand-in-hand with health-care professionals including physicians, nurses, therapists, and technicians to solve a wide variety of problems.The curriculum challenges students to analyze problems from both engineering and a biological perspective. Bioengineers through the program of B.Sc. in Biomedical Engineering, whose individual efforts will make substantial contributions to society.Career opportunities for biomedical engineers are excellent. Biomedical engineers work with health care professionals (e.g., physicians, nurses, therapists, and technicians) and may be called upon in a wide range of capacities such as designing instruments, devices, and software. Description of the program

Radiology and Imaging Technologists function as important members of the healthcare team performing many a diagnostic imaging procedure in hospitals, clinics, and other healthcare settings. The program is primarily designed to develop highly skilled and competent radiology technologist duly qualified to provide quality patient care services in plain radiography, interventional procedures, computed tomography, ultrasonography, mammography and magnetic resonance imaging.A career in Medical Radiography and Imaging Technology offers a promising future, job stability and a good compensatory package. Graduates have the eligibility and option to pursue Master’s and/or even to specialize in any of the imaging modalities. The graduates can work as an application specialist in medical imaging equipment companies. They have an immense opportunity in the academic field in various higher education institutions. Admission Eligibility

  • A Candidate with SSC (Science Group) and HSC (Science Group) or their equivalents is eligible to apply with a minimum CGPA of 2.5 in either one and a combined CGPA of 6.
  • Foreign students with equivalent qualification are eligible.
  • Equivalence will be decided by a Committee called ‘Equivalence Committee’ formed by the Academic Council of BUHS.
