Department of Health Informatics
  • The department envisages to provide students higher level of knowledge and understanding of healthcare and its organization and the use of IT to improve healthcare delivery.
  • To promote critical thinking and develop high-level skills and abilities for planning and introducing informatics tools within healthcare for improved knowledge, reliable and timely information, and decision support.
  • To train students to plan and carry out research process in health informatics domain both independently and in collaboration and to critically appraise current issues in health and social care informatics, research, and development of frameworks and problem-solving strategies in the national and international level.
  • To develop students on good insight into ethics, privacy, safety, and integrity of patients and related data and to demonstrate significant skills for the development, adaptation and implementation of clinical information systems in a leadership position

The vision of the Department of Health Informatics is to develop health professionals with higher-level knowledge needed to ensure accessibility, accuracy, availability, integrity, and security of patient information with digital technology for the strengthening of health system.

Our department started its journey in the year 2011 with Bangladesh Institute of Health Sciences (BIHS) under university of Dhaka with a vision to develop manpower in the field of Health Informatics. Later on this department has become a part of BUHS in 2013

Health Informatics is a discipline at the intersection of HealthCare, Computer Science.

  • It is one of the most rapidly expanding fields and the increasingly demanding area within healthcare in both locally and internationally.
  • It integrates data with patient care using cutting-edge technology and thus improves healthcare delivery, access to care, and health education & biomedical research.
  • Disease prevention, diagnosis, monitoring, treatment, and patient’s outcome can be significantly improved through digital health.
