Community Nutrition is to recognize the skills in nutrition practice, policy, and communication along with foundational knowledge in nutritional science, epidemiology, and public health. Also helps the professionals to demonstrate their competency in delivering nutrition care and services among different communities.

Community Nutrition (CN) department was first introduced under the Public Health Division at Bangladesh Institute of Health Sciences (BIHS), which was the Apex Institute of Health Care Development Project (HCDP) and its associated hospital named BIHS Hospital. At first, this department started its drive under BIHS with two programs, namely a one-year MPH in Community Nutrition and a two-year Master of Philosophy (MPhil) in Community Nutrition. The MPhil program was run with the affiliation of the University of Dhaka from 2007 to 2012 with the support of the University of Oslo, Norway. From July 2010 to July 2012, the session MPH (CN) program was offered with the affiliation of BSMMU under this department with the same facility support. Later, the CN department was transferred under the Public Health Division at Bangladesh University of Health Sciences (BUHS) in 2013.

  • Community nutrition includes individual and interpersonal-level interventions focused on creating changes in knowledge, attitudes, behavior, and health outcomes individually or in small groups within a community setting;
  • Community Nutrition is designed to produce professionals ready to be employed in the job market;
  • Both the bachelor and master programs combine academic training, field activities, and research work to prepare the students in Nutrition and as well as in Public Health;
  • Course curricula are up to date with international standards and need-based;
  • Competent faculties run courses;
  • Highly demanding in national and international organizations, the post has already been created at the district level in Govt. Sector; GOB, NGOs, and Development Partners are strengthening their nutritional activities at the community level
