INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION, PARTNERSHIP AND RESEARCH CENTER (ICP&RC)

Bangladesh University of Health Science (BUHS) now has a flagship unit called International Cooperation, Partnership and Research Center (ICP&RC) where we can

  1. Strengthen university network and international collaborations
  2. Create a civil society multidisciplinary research center
  3. Build a momentum to flourish academic and research excellence
  4. Involve in different global grant application
  5. Strengthen faculty and students’ capacity
  6. Involve students in an extracurricular activity specially focused on the biomedical research-based study in the health sciences arena

The initial meeting for the establishment of the ICP&RC was held on May 2, 2022. On March 12, 2022, a Board of Trustees (BoT) meeting took place, during which the proposal to establish the International Cooperation, Partnership, and Research Center was presented and subsequently approved. To ensure successful implementation, coordination efforts for the ICP&RC will involve various stakeholders. Collaboration with Deans, Heads, and senior management of the university will be pursued to maximize participation and contributions. The office of the Executive Director for ICP&RC will work closely with senior management, fostering a virtual and direct reporting relationship with the Vice-Chancellor. This will facilitate efficient communication and decision-making processes.

ICP&RC will include some of the best researchers, and a work environment for most of the research staff of BUHS. It will substantially contribute to the achievement of the reputation, research profile or revenue and involvement in multiple research projects by BUHS.

Dr. Shafi Bhuiyan MBBS, MPH, MBA, PhD, MJF is a faculty member of Clinical Public Health and Socio Behavioural Health Sciences Division, Dalla Lana School of Public Health (DLSPH), University of Toronto. He also co-founder and program lead of the Internationally Trained Medical Doctors (ITMDs) Post-Graduate Bridge Training Program at the Chang School of Continuing Education, an adjunct professor/distinguished visiting scholar in the Faculty of Community Services, Ryerson University. Dr. Bhuiyan currently Chair of the Board of Directors of the Canadian Coalition for Global Health Research (CCGHR). ... Dr. Shafi Bhuiyan, is a winner of Helen Keller Fellowship, Melvin Jones Fellow and the Council of Agencies Serving South Asians award for civic engagement and leadership in Canada, and an RBC’s Top 25 Canadian Immigrants 2018 award finalist. He is an internationally recognized leader in global public health education, training and research initiatives, with diverse experience in both developed and developing countries. Since 2010, he has served as a scientist of MOHLTC funded health research projects in Ontario, established global health research partnerships with several champion healthcare organization locally and globally, liaison of the CCGHR –University Advisory Committee, Capacity building Co-chair and Board Treasurer. Dr Bhuiyan also co-created U of T’s Dalla Lana School of Public health- MScCH pilot program for internationally trained medical doctors. Dr. Bhuiyan was a JSPS scientist at Osaka University Japan for international cooperation for health care development and co-created international committed on MCH Handbook to support global maternal and child health development in 2009. He also teaches primary health care management graduate program at Mahidol University, Thailand (2005-2007) as foreign expert faculty. In 2000 he served as lead liaison between Govt. of Japan and Bangladesh to develop Maternal and child health training institute (MCHTI) in Dhaka; and 2001-2004 he developed MCH handbook system to empower women’s and their families for better health in Bangladesh. Dr. Bhuiyan received his medical degree from Sir Salimullah Medical College, University of Dhaka in Bangladesh, an MPH from Mahidol University in Thailand, a PhD in International Collaboration from Osaka University, Japan and an MBA in Global Healthcare Management from Ted Rogers School of Management (TRSM) at Canada’s Ryerson University. He is also the founder of the Internationally Trained Medical Doctors Canadian Network and the Toronto Global Doctors Lions Club, Region Chair and 2nd Vice District Governor Candidate of Lions Clubs International Dist. Dr. Shahanaz Chowdhury MBBS (SSMC, DU), MPH (NIPSOM, DU), MBGPH, PhD (USA), PhD fellow (BUP, BD) is currently working as Associate Professor & Head Dept. of Community Medicine, Faculty of Public Health at Bangladesh University of Health Sciences (BUHS). She has completed MBBS from Sir Salimullah Medical College under Dhaka University in 1996 and MPH in Reproductive and Child Health in 2003 under National Institute of Preventive and Social Sciences (NIPSOM). She has acquired extensive theoretical and practical knowledge on basics of public health issues and public health-oriented subjects which helped her to be confident with a strong foundation on research work in the field of public health. Now she has completed the MBGPH (Master in Bioethics and Global Public Health) at American University of Sovereign Nations (USA) in 2015. She thinks ethical knowledge and skills in public health issues will enable her to be known as an expert on Bioethics and Global Public Health arena. ... She has been recently appointed by Oladele A. Ogunseitan, Presidential Chair of the University of California, USA as a member of the Competency Sub-Committee of the Consortium of Universities for Global Health (CUGH). She is appointed for a 2-year term beginning 1 May 2022 until 30 April 2024. She has been highly regarded as national and international organizations in core medical education and research. She is also a member of the Academic Partnership Program Initiative (APPI) of the Consortium of Universities for Global Health (CUGH) invited by Teresa Eduarda Machai Macete, Head of Training Unit, Responsavel de Formacao, Manhica Health Research Center, Centro de Investigação em Saúde de Manhiça (CISM), Moçambique. She is playing a pivotal role in the prevention of the COVID-19 pandemic as a member of the Sub-Committee of the World Emergency COVID19 Pandemic Ethics Committee (WeCope), Eubios Ethics Institute. She was also the Team Leader of the Disease Characterization Working Group, The Global Health Network (TGHN), University of Oxford program. She has been working also as a faculty member of the American University of Sovereign Nations (AUSN), the USA where from she was awarded PhD in 2019. She at this moment is also doing another PhD from Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) in Palliative care. From the very beginning of her career, she was highly motivated on research work with a view to contribute to the improvement of existing health service system. Among those research work, eight have been accepted for oral presentation and four have accepted for poster presentation both nationally and internationally. Nusrat Farhana a dedicated and accomplished researcher and policy analyst, has made significant contributions to the field of health services and systems. With a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience from the University of Toronto and a Master of Public Administration with a specialization in Policy Analysis and Development from Queen's University, Nusrat Farhana laid the foundation for a successful career. ... Nusrat Farhana’s true passion for health policy and management emerged during their time at the University of Toronto's Institute of Health Policy Management & Evaluation (IHPME), where they pursued and earned a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Health Services Research. Focused on health economics, strategy, and policy frameworks, she conducted groundbreaking research on system governance structures, organizational behavior, and leader perceptions within hospital sectors in Alberta and Ontario. Their findings offered valuable recommendations for health system design. Throughout their academic journey, she actively engaged with a diverse array of stakeholders, conducting in-depth interviews with policy makers, hospital leaders, and clinicians. This engagement extended to international collaboration with organizations like the World Health Organization, contributing to the enhancement of primary healthcare performance databases. The culmination of Nusrat Farhana's expertise and commitment led to prominent roles in Ontario's health sector. As Manager of Implementation in the Economics, Policy, & Research Department at the Ontario Medical Association, they spearheaded initiatives to promote physician engagement and leadership within Ontario Health Teams (OHTs). Additionally, in the capacity of Senior Program Consultant at the Ministry of Health, Nusrat Farhana played a pivotal role in advancing provincial coverage of OHTs, demonstrating strategic thinking and effective relationship management. Beyond their professional endeavors, she has actively contributed to volunteer work, including efforts with the World Health Organization to estimate the global magnitude of unrecorded alcohol consumption and research on traumatic brain injuries among vulnerable populations. Throughout Nusrat Farhana's journey, they have exhibited a strong commitment to mentorship. As the Founder of the Peer Support Mentorship Program at the University of Toronto's Institute of Health Policy, Management & Evaluation, she has played a crucial role in creating a supportive learning environment, guiding students in their academic pursuits, and fostering a culture of sharing and collaboration.
