DEPARTMENT OF MICROBIOLOGY
Microbiology is the branch of science dealing with microorganisms. It is one of the most relevant, dynamic and exciting disciplines in the biological sciences. Microbiology has become an umbrella term that encompasses many sub disciplines or fields of study, including bacteriology (the study of bacteria), mycology (the study of fungi), protozoology (the study of protozoa), parasitology (the study of parasites) and virology (the study of viruses).
Department of Microbiology at Bangladesh University of Health Sciences is currently offering BS degree in Microbiology and Immunology and MS degree in Microbiology. BS (Hons) is a four year degree course consist a 146 credits and MS degree course consist 80 credits for two year but can be achieved in one year depending on credit completion. The course aims to give the basic and detailed knowledge and understanding of important aspects of microbiology as currently applied in industry, food, health and medical sciences, in the environment management, in biotechnology as well as in basic and primary research.
We are dedicated to providing the quality education, through both teaching and research, necessary to meet the needs of this growing field. One of our main goals is to prepare students for leadership roles as microbiologists in industry, government agencies, health related fields, environmental health, and university teaching and research at home as well as abroad.
The discipline of microbiology is diverse, and the job opportunities for microbiologists are enormous. The Department would like to welcome students to join us in exploring this exciting discipline.
